Gift ideas for Pilates enthusiasts

If you’re looking for gift inspiration for someone who loves Pilates (including yourself! 😉), we put together a few suggestions with links for you…

APPAREL

Lululemon Align Leggings

These are an investment, but I love them because they’re super soft, don’t ride up or pull down and don’t have zips, which is a no-no when you’re spending a lot of time lying down!

Adanola Ultimate Leggings

Seamless and very comfortable for less than half the price of Lululemon!

ToeSox

I love ToeSox because they encourage a toe spread, which is important for the health of our feet as well as staying in place for equipment work where you’re using your feet a lot. The choice of colours and styles is huge, a bit like my collection of ToeSox - I like to coordinate my socks and leggings (I probably need to get out more don’t I?!) We have a selection of ToeSox for sale in the studio - just ask when you’re next in.

Gary Yoga Pants from Sweaty Betty

My absolute favourites for relaxed workouts and meditations as well as general lounging around! So soft and comfy.

PILATES PROPS & EQUIPMENT

Hand weights

I use the mini dumbbell style from Pilates Mad, but there are many, many similar options out there. You may prefer these strap-style wrist weights or for those with a design-led aesthetic take a look at the Bala bangles pictured in our montage.

Overball

A soft easy-grip texture ball that helps to target and strengthen smaller muscle groups, perfect for pelvic floor exercises, as well as deep core muscles. Buy an overall online here or in the studio.

Resistance Bands

A super cost-effective enhancement to your practice, resistance bands are great for strength building as well as for stretching! Buy resistance bands online here and in the studio too.

Pilates head cushions

Our spine shouldn’t be under tension when we lie down on our backs. By supporting the head with a soft cushion or two we can lay in a neutral neck curve and rest in the centre of the occiput so we can start all exercises from an optimal place and activate the correct muscles rather than starting from a place where we’re already over-using the neck muscles.

Foam roller

Foam rollers can be used not only to release tightness in the muscles and fascia but can also be used in class and in your home practice to challenge balance, improve coordination and posture as well as replicate some of the exercises from the Pilates apparatus. If you work on a screen then a foam roller could be at the top of your Pilates wish list to help you alleviate neck and shoulder tension, improve posture and decrease rounded forward shoulders.

Pilates block

Blocks are brilliant not only for supporting the head during side-lying exercises but also for levelling your pelvis for sitting comfortably with a straight back. Pilates Mad have both the EVA foam blocks we have in the studio and a sustainable cork version.

Spine fitter

This is a relatively new bit of kit that’s hit studios and has also been designed for home use. It’s cleverly designed to fit between the vertebra of the spine to improve mobility, and massage and to provide pressure on both sides of the spine that has a relaxing effect on the entire musculature of the spine and shoulders. Sissel the makers of the Spinefitter have also created lots of free videos which you can use for your home Practice.

LIFESTYLE
